Gospel: Holy Trinity Sunday

Today marks the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity, the one Triune God that we believe in. The Gospel today is lifted from the narrative of St John.

For this is how God loved the world: he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life.

For God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but so that through him the world might be saved.

No one who believes in him will not be judged; but whoever does not believe is judged already because that person does not believe in the Name of God's only son.

The Holy Trinity is one of the first issues resolved by Christianity as theology became complex. In the Easter Season, we have constantly been reminded how God's only Son was sent into this world as the same being from the Father in heaven. As Jesus triumphed from death, he was received into the glory in heaven with the promise of the Holy Spirit to guide the disciples in their ministry and mission.

The Triune God, as the very nature of God's existence, reflects who God is. God is the king of the universe, and all things were made through him, and for him, with everything working in order. The God with three persons is one of the mystery of our faith that can only be explained by the very truth that although God has distinct personas, they are working in unity through the Holy Spirit.

As the Pentecost was destined for the Holy Spirit to descend from heaven, we have known from the very beginning what God is. The very nature of God as Triune perfectly summarizes the depth of the knowledge of our God, because the Holy Trinity is one God working as three beings, and for purposes of reasoning, it does not sound logical. What is special about this doctrine is that God can always make the seemingly impossible, possible.

Holy Trinity, one God, have mercy on us. Amen.
